Aaron,
the third issue turned out fantastic again and I found most of the articles extremely inspiring. Thank you and all authors for their contributions to this amazing magazine…
BTW, your artwork seems to become more and more reduced to its bare essentials, or am I imagining things?

I think that any movement in art should be thus: as with the Dao, the path is about shedding vestiges–removing the unnecessary stone chips to reveal the hidden glory that was there, in all of us, all along. We often think we capture a man, who he is and what he represents, by highlighting some deeds he did in the past, as if this summary of a few moments of his life somehow describe him, in all his complexity as he appears in this present moment. In actuality, we are born again every second; and the past moments don’t lead in a linear chain to this one, but are, instead, gone forever. The wisdom, connection and beauty thereof was here all along, is here now–in you, me, and these words–and the best we can do is to wipe off the dust and let it, not ourselves, shine. For me, I try to let the tea paint what it wants, rather than what I want (which is easy when you’re really tea drunk). In fact, I can’t take much credit as I think anyone with fine tea could do it. I mean that quite literally. But, ultimately, the point is that any beauty whatsoever you find in my art–or any art for that matter–is in yourself, your eyes and spirit, not the painting. You compliment your own simplicity, in other words; not mine.
So much love, publicly, for all the time and energy Jo has given us all to make this magazine possible. He is truly a more radiant being than I.
Respect

A point Jo:
the art in the Artwork section is mine, while these small paintings that highlight the bottom categories of Issue 3 were not painted by me, but the Korean master Lim (discussed in Issue 2). I was not sure whether you were commenting on the artwork here or in the other section of the site and just responded mindlessly. Sorry. Just wanted to clarify and give kudos where they are due, should you–or anyone else–have misunderstood the two small paintings to be mine.
Peace
Aaron
